Freedom & Liberty
K’we. My name is Michelle Paul. I am a Treaty Rights Holder, Water & Land Protector, and a Mother here in the Unceded Ancestral lands of Mi’kma’ki. I’ve started this blog on October 4, 2021 feeling compelled to ”Do Something”. Today, in Mi’kma’ki, the Nova Scotian government has enforced the ”Proof of Vaccine” be shown to enter ”inessential” places of business ex restaurants, bars, fitness clubs, and sporting/other events. I have been an active advocate against corporate resource extraction who pose environmental threats to our homelands. Part of my activism includes stopping SWN from fracking NB, the removal of the Cornwallis Statue in K’jipuktuk, and standing against the Alta gas subsiduary company- Alton Gas project from dumping brine in our sacred Shubenacadie River. We are currently still in court fighting that one. Our story has been featured in multiple publications spanning 7(?) years now including a documentary on Netflix called ”There’s Something in the Water” produced by Elliot Page and Ian Daniel. Today, 3 days after Treaty day celebrations, 4 days after Truth and Reconciliation Day when everyone wore orange shirts to show solidarity in acknowledging the historical and current atrocities committed in residential school, and to this day the child welfare system, I am overwhelmed to witness the attack on the freedoms and liberties of ALL with this vaccine monitoring system. I am a mother of a promising athlete whose future dream is now under attack. I will not be a silent witness. I will stand up for All to draw the line in the proverbial sand. Tepia! (Enough!) United we stand, divided we fall! The power IS IN THE PEOPLE, not with the people in power! Will you stand up with me for Freedom? Regardless of class, race, gender, or your medical status?
